Mālama ‘Ohana Working Group
Mālama ʻOhana working group is housed in the Office of Wellness and Resilience.
The working group is tasked to seek, design, and recommend transformative changes to the State's existing child welfare system.
The working group will hold listening sessions throughout the state to bring community voice and community partners together to improve and transform the child welfare system.
Listening and collaborating is critical for transformation that will benefit some of our most vulnerable families and children.
MOWG Report
Aloha public & community, and friends of the Mālama ‘Ohana Working Group (MOWG),
The MOWG Report Draft dated 11/12/2024 (linked below) is an updated draft of the report that was shared in preparation for the October 28, 2024 Mālama ‘Ohana Working Group meeting. The most significant changes to this version are the additions of Sections III. and IV. (Insights and Experiences from Our Communities and Our Shared Vision of How We Can Mālama ‘Ohana). These sections were outlined in the earlier version and are now text. Revisions have been made in other sections, and Section V. includes more content than the earlier version.
Please note that this is still a draft document that needs several more rounds of reviews and edits. However, the bulk of the content is in place. We did our best to ensure that the report is as complete as possible.
Timeline for moving to a final version of the report:
5pm, Monday, November 18th: Link for MOWG feedback to draft report. Comments received by this time will be considered for inclusion in the final draft. Other comments will be included in an appendix, if the person writing the comments wants their comments included.
November 21st: Deadline for final report to be distributed in advance of the November 25th Mālama ‘Ohana Working Group meeting
November 25th: Mālama ‘Ohana Working Group meeting to approve the final report content (technical changes, formatting, and correction of typographical errors will occur after this approval
The MOWG process has been intentional, inclusive, and grounded in the Designed Alliance created by MOWG and community members. Please review and offer comments in the spirit of what weʻve learned and created together. Mahalo!

Office of Wellness and Resilience (OWR)
The Office of Wellness and Resilience (OWR) is the first of its kind in the nation.
OWR is a good partner for Mālama ʻOhana as the Office is committed to creating a trauma-informed state that will better serve our families, improve community health and wellness outcomes.
The issues of trauma and being trauma effective are at the core of the issues faced by the families and children in the child welfare system, and also by many workers in the system.
The members of the Mālama ʻOhana working group bring together child welfare services and community service organizations with those they serve.
